The Tegeta escrow account scandal is a 2014 multi-million dollar corruption scheme in the government of Tanzania. Reports and documents show that over $250 million USD and up to $400 million USD were transferred from the central bank of Tanzania (also known as Bank of Tanzania) and distributed illegally among government officials and other individuals.
Some of the recipients of the stolen taxpayer funds include Prof. Anna Tibaijuka, a former United Nations diplomat, who is also Tanzania's current Minister of Lands. She acknowledged receiving $1 million USD, and former attorney general [[Andrew Chenge] also received $1 million USD.
